It all started for me in 1999 with a simple idea. I thought it would be nice to get away for a weekend vacation with other women who like me, love to read. Whenever I meet another woman who loves to read, we chat away about the books we have both have read, laugh again at the humor, and remember the fun we had, just reading. We enjoy reading the work of Black Authors, in particular, because they record African-American experiences the way no one else can. Over and over and we see ourselves, our families and friends on the pages of these wonderful stories.

In addition to reading, my other great passion is travel. I want to go everywhere and enjoy exploring the sights and (shopping) of another city. We get to take a trip in addition to the experience of enjoying a literary experience together.

At the Literary Retreats we invite four wonderful African American Authors to join us to hear our thoughts about their work and to hear them read a little from their books. Some of the Authors who join us are fairly new and others who come have been successful Authors for many years.
