The Second House from the Corner
by Sadeqa Johnson

Author Sedeqa Johnson offers here a dramatic story of Mrs. Felicia Lyons as her newest novel and I loved it.

Felicia is living her dreams, sort of.  She is married to and in love with Preston.  He is a good provider allowing her to be a stay-at-home Mom to their three young children.  They live in a lovely suburban home.  But Felicia has a secret.

Felicia tries to live authentically, at the same time doubting her ability to belong in the life she has created.  One day a telephone call comes that completely interrupts her new life.  She learns that the past is never buried.  She can try to pretend that it never happened but does that ever work?  Does Felicia’s difficult childhood back in Philadelphia, where she witnessed her parent’s brutal domestic violence, affect her self-esteem as an adult?  The Book Club will enjoy discussing this question.

Someone Felicia had long ago removed from her life about is back and brings feelings and memories she thought she had buried.

Life gets complicated for Felicia Lyons.   Her perfect life begins to unravel and she makes some questionable decisions.  I could not put this book down.  I just could not wait to see what happens next. Will Preston be able to handle finding out his wife’s secrets?

Does Felicia find a way back to her idyllic life? Does her Grandmother have the right idea when she advises Felicia to leave the past in the past and move on from her life in the second house from the corner.  Can she?
What about friends from her old life, who knew who she really was, and is? How does she incorporate them in her new life when she is trying to be someone else, someone better? Some say that old friends are the best friends.

I know you will enjoy the story of Felicia Lyons and her life situations. Author Sedeqa Johnson’s writing style is smooth, engaging and familiar.  Her main character is real, flawed and you might know someone like her.

The Second House from the Corner comes out in February.  Please add it to your Reading List.  This novel is not to be missed.  Everyone is going to be talking about it.
